The European Vegetation Survey (EVS) is a Working Group of the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS). The EVS began meeting in Rome in 1992 and has organised a workshop every year since then, most often in Rome or other locations in Italy. The EVS represents a new spirit in phytosociology and its aims are to develop common standards and shared software for vegetation survey across Europe and to encourage the development of national programs for the classification of vegetation. Annual reports of its activities are posted on the IAVS website and in annual Bulletin of Association, by the current Secretary Milan Chytry. EVS-Italia has been established by some italian members of the IAVS, regular participants of the EVS workshop, to help organise any future meetings that take place there and to participate to common projects or research initiatives in Europe. This website gives details of its purpose and aims and some history of EVS and past workshops.
