Dear WIF Colleagues and Trans Brahma Colleagues and Guests, Through discussions arising between myself and Dr. K Siddhartha, we have agreed to go ahead and a have joint webinar conference coming up between our two organisations, on the one hand the Trans-Brahma think tank based in India, and also the World Intellectual Forum, also founded in South India, but active also in Europe and elsewhere. We shall be meeting on 30 September, the last day of the month, and we will be using zoom Here below please find the zoom link for this event, at the end of this letter. The topic will be as follows: " GLOBAL THINKING FOR PEACE AND SUSTAINABILITY, WHAT ROLE CAN FAITH, SPIRITUALITY AND PHILOSOPHY PLAY IN THIS PROCESS ?" We shall be discussing ethics, philosophy and contemporary global problems: And asking together how can spirituality, religion and intellectual work shine a light for humanity to emerge from our current catastrophic situation We will compare and discuss the respective contributions to be made by different religions, and dharmic philosophies and philosophical study in general, including those from all lands and cultures and traditions. This can be based on the Periodic Table Of The World's Religious And Philosophical Traditions, which details 164 such traditions on the planet, as a scientific benchmark, to be able to talk about the complexity of comparative global philosophy in depth. We may also discuss the difference between Dharma and religion – how do we define “religion” actually? India, for example, is a civilization which is based on Sanatan Dharma. And yet, "dharma" doesn't quite translate to "religion" in English. In fact Indian civilization has lots of religions (Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Sufism, Judaism, theosophy etc.) – why can they not all live happily together ? What about Dharma, religion and philosophy in Europe, Russia, china, and the Americas – all have their spiritual paths – so can we not find a global approach which celebrates and affirms the wisdom of all humanities intellectual traditions ? A sort of global spiritual humanism ? Can that serve as the basis for a new global peace civilisation emerging after COVID ? Just as illness is now global, as demonstrated by the COVID 19 virus, how can spirituality and intellectual work also become global in order to develop resources for peace and justice to counter it by positivity and good news ? With the pandemic infecting millions and global warming threatening our survival, how can we come together and plan counter-strategies ? What about global warming, extreme climate change, war (including covert and cyber wars) and other forms of killing threats we are facing ? What about the lack of trust by people in scientists ? Is world governance the answer, or the problem ? Who is really responsible for this virus - is it a bioweapon or a freak accident of nature ? Who is doing what to find out ? This webinar is taking place on zoom on Wednesday 30 September, 6-9 PM (IST), and is open to all members of Trans Braham and the World Intellectual Forum and invited guests. It will include key-note talks by Dr Thomas Daffern, Prof K Siddhartha (Trans Brahma), Prof Swaminadhan (Global Chair, World Intellectual Forum), Prof Arun Sikarwar (Trans Brahma) and Dr Katyayani Singh, of the Centre for Non-Killing in Bhopal. Others will be invited to contribute once they have confirmed attendance for certain. For certain there will room for all to contribute in the discussions and question and answer sessions. We hope intellectuals will be joining us from Europe, Asia, Americas, Russia etc.If you know someone who ought to be invited, please inform me who and send me their email. Questions and discussions will also be part of the event as we grapple with the very complex intellectual problems facing the planet. This is a safe space for deep thinking – which the World Intellectual Forum operates as an “intellectual freedom space” in which we are encouraged to “think outside the box”. We are not under any political party, religious or national control and are comprised of eminent thinkers from all perspectives and backgrounds around the world. You can find our Statement of Principles and Values here: https://worldintellectualforumeurope.weebly.com Please confirm directly with myself on iipsgp@gmail.com or thomasdaffern@gmail.com as I will be running the zoom technical side of things and chairing this global event. If you want an, official speaking slot in the running order, please advise me accordingly. I hope you are keeping well in this difficult time we are living through. Let us use this webinar to put our heads together and organise some intellectual resistance against the idiocy that is sweeping our world. We must also discuss the problems of Syria and its need for a peaceful solution, as well as Israel-Palestine. Meanwhile, if you are not already doing so, and have time, do tune in to the ongoing Heads of State meetings in the UN General Assembly opening ceremony, and this talk by the Pope has been one of the best so far. and certainly the most like listening to a lecture in philosophy, ethics and spirituality.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_exBwA3zsAo&fbclid=IwAR3ZrGaplPOsUomMs8dGY865XE34KHqPWmMW1Q0I9PyiFOkCx_6yYGqeow8 I am sure he would enjoy being part of our forthcoming Webinar ! I hope you are keeping well in this difficult time we are living through. Let us use this webinar to put our heads together and organise some intellectual resistance against the idiocy, ignorance and fear that is sweeping our world. I look forward to seeing you online on September 30. Yours in peace and service, Dr Thomas Daffern Director, IIPSGP European Coordinator, World Intellectual Forum
