International workshop “Turkey, Russia, and the West: What is at stake in Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean?” (Centre for Applied Turkey Studies of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs), 20 April 2021 Russia's intervention in Syria in 2015 has enabled Moscow to become a powerful geopolitical actor in the Middle East. The Syrian conflict has bound Russia and Turkey together to an unprecedented degree, while at the same time alienating Ankara from the West. Yet the situation on the ground in Syria remains far from stable. In the Eastern Mediterranean as well, Turkey's relations with its Western partners have been deteriorating, while Russia also has a growing interest and footprint in the region. As boundaries between friends and enemies, allies and partners are becoming increasingly unclear, this workshop aims to fundamentally reassess stakes and interests of major actors involved by bringing together perspectives from Russia, Turkey, the US and the EU. 20 April Panel 1 09:00-10:20 (EST) / 15:00-16:20 (CET) / 16:00-17:20 (MSK/IST) Rivalries and Alignments in the Eastern Mediterranean 20 April Panel 2 10:30-11:55 (EST) / 16:30-17:55 (CET) / 17:30-18:55 (MSK/IST) Turkey, Russia, and the West 21 April Panel 3 10:30-11:55 (EST) / 16:30-17:55 (CET) / 17:30-18:55 (MSK/IST) The Future of Political and Constitutional Process in Syria 21 April Panel 4 09:00-10:20 (EST) / 15:00-16:20 (CET) / 16:00-17:20 (MSK/IST) Rivalries and Alignments in the Eastern Mediterranean
