Congress topics: 1. Wildlife - Wildlife Interactions The focus here is on the interactions between different species / populations, as well as within populations. Subjects can cover wildlife biology, population dynamics, animal behaviour, predator-prey relationships, intra-specific and interspecific competition, impacts from Invasive Alien Species on biodiversity etc. 2. Humans → Wildlife Impacts This Congress topic will include all presentations dealing with human-related effects (positive as well as negative) on wildlife, such as those from land development, agriculture intensification (CAP), human demography changes (Africa!), over-harvesting & poaching, habitat management & restoration measures, transmission of diseases from domestic animals to wildlife, wind-farms and power-lines, and even the consequences of (man-induced) climate change. 3. Wildlife → Humans Impacts The presence of wildlife often results in effects and impacts – positive, negative or a combination of both – on human activities and interests. Wild species may provide significant ecosystem-services (including cultural ones) but also present serious damage risks for farming, fisheries, forestry and other socio-economic sectors. Presentations could also cover zoonoses, wildlife collisions with traffic, effects of predators on game stocks, etc. 4. Humans-Humans Interactions This Congress topic seeks to cover all ‘human dimension’ aspects of wildlife conservation and management, such as the public perception of large carnivores and other wild species, antagonisms in wildlife presence, the degree of acceptance of management techniques, attitudes towards urban wildlife, welfare issues in relation to hunting practices, etc. 5.Tools for Management and Research Under this topic the Congress will bring together all presentations dealing with management and research methods, techniques, instruments, simulation and other population models used etc. These are in fact the various “How-to” aspects, having to lead to the appropriate technical responses for all the issues listed under the four previous topics. This includes the wide range of methods for dealing with the human aspects of wildlife management such as adaptive management, participatory approaches, community-based wildlife resource management and many more.
