A molecular-statistical approach of Maier-Saupe type is derived for the description of Meier spontaneous polarization and induced polarization in the tilted smectic phases. We also report about the long-periodicity ferrielectric smectic phases induced by electric field. In particular, the structure of 12-layer phase (q_T=2/3) obtained in the framework of statistical approach presented in exactly coincides with the one observed by resonant x-ray scattering, and we acknowledge the existence of 15-layer phase (q_T=11/15) at larger electric field.
