The bacterium Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 was employed to obtain nanoparticles NpAg2S, NpCdS and NpZnS from an aqueous solution of salts of metal and sulfur sources. Nanoparticles are characterized by a narrow range of size distribution; have a spherical shape with the average diameter of NpAg2S, NpCdS and NpZnS are 8±2, 5±1 and about 1–2 nm, respectively. The effective diameter of NpAg2S, NpCdS and NpZnS is 107, 159 and 219 nm, respectively. The value of the zeta potential of NpAg2S, NpCdS and NpZnS is defined as –22, –23 and –32 mV, respectively (metastable nanoparticles). The luminescence spectrum of NpZnS and NpCdS has a peak intensity of the emitted radiation at an excitation wavelength of 380 nm. Nanoparticles have on their surface bacterial proteins (protein corona), which provide stability in aqueous suspensions. The properties of the protein corona were analyzed. Biogenic nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of functional polymeric microspheres.
