While in the Russian Federation more effort is made for the development of family placement of children without parental care, a number of problems, including the problem of canceling adoptions and fosterings, makes necessary the development of psychological support of such families. In connection with the interest in finding predictors of successful placement of the child, the question arises about the need for mandatory psychological assessment (including study motivation, parenting/adoption). The report discusses the possible risks of this approach associated with attempts to select the "functional" and "dysfunctional" motives; justifies the benefits of orientation to support and consulting families; and describes the method to study the expectations and attitudes of parents, based on the technique of repertory grid. The study was conducted on parents of 20 families with adopted/fostered children and parents from 18 families without foster children, they filled with rank-order repertory grid, which was assessed according to selected constructs pictures of the kids and their family members. The grid was subjected to quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data are given on distribution of the main quantitative indices required to use methods.
