Double-decker lanthanide phthalocyaninates reveal single-molecular magnetic (SMM) behaviour, which is characterized by exceptionally high energy barriers and blocking temperatures. Since the first report on SMM properties Tb(Pc)2-NBu4+ in 2003 significant improvement of SMM properties of lanthanide phthalocyaninates was achieved. Particularly, this became possible due to formation of multi-decker polynuclear complexes with the increased number of lanthanide ions, which reveal f-f coupling between proximal Ln3+ ions providing these assemblies with superior SMM characteristics. Up-to-date, three major approaches have been proposed to form multinuclear complexes with tetrapyrrolic ligands via covalent, coordination or supramolecular bonding of several magnetically active units. In the present talk we will summarize achievements in the field of design of multinuclear lanthanide SMMs with special emphasis on our results on supramolecular assembling of crown- substituted heteroleptic sandwich lanthanide phthalocyaninates.
