Fantasy and fantastic fiction is a serious branch of modern literature, which forms its own functional style of the language. Fantastic literature is a difficult area for exploration. It craves a deep knowledge in mythology, sociology, psychology and social anthropology as well as great knowledge in linguistics and literary theory. This functional style embraces all crucial aspects of modern thought and life. Facing its second centenary, fantasy and fantastic fiction is still relatively poorly studied of its function in the modern society, of its aims and goals. Being partly a children-to-youth orientated area of literature, fantasy works influence the formation of categories of thought, such as, for example, idea of the world itself. It is interesting, that fantasy works as well as borrowing models from mythology and philosophy or adopting the model of “reality”, can also be a field of creating an experimental, brand new concept of the world. Therefore fantasy can alter the fill of common categories and create its own worldview.
