The key characteristic of soil sonstruction is to provide a stable greening field supporting mechanical loads, the water–air and temperature dynamics, and soil absorption capacity. The soils constructed for the field generally contain two to five layers of artificial and semi-natural materials, a fertile layer rich in organomineral complexes, and a system below ground level to assist water components such as irrigation, drainage, and heating. Natural substrates found in the residual soil horizons also play a role in the function of the constructed soils. Overall, the soil body contains varying layers with different texture, which creates a unique and uncertain profile of water migration, dissolved substrates, and biomass production. Understanding these widely distinct profiles cannot be done by the trial and error method and would require the use of innovative hydrophysical models. The report shows main principles of technological modelling in soil design based on HYDRYS-1D software.
