Airborne and space-borne optical remote sensing systems (photo, multi-spectral – up to ten spectral channels in visible and near infrared wavelength region and hyper-spectral – hundreds of the channels) are evolved towards higher spectral and spatial resolution, which can enhance the accuracy of the computational procedures in the relevant processing of data sets presented in the form of digital images. Pattern recognition is the major science and technology discipline that serves to construct the related computational procedures called classifiers. Cognitive technologies (from the word “recognition”) embed the updated techniques of the object recognition on the remote sensing images under processing.
