The features of peak ground velocity (PGV) attenuation near the fault were considered. It has been established that similar to the peak ground acceleration (PGA) the peak ground velocity (PGV) for earthquakes with different magnitudes (M) are well scaled by fitting data along the distance (R) axis, and not along the amplitude one. The new correlation relations among PGV, magnitude M, distance R have been developed. Analyzing the empirical distribution of the velocity amplitudes it has been obtained that there are four zones with different velocity attenuation near the fault. The empirical attenuation relations of PGV for every zone have been developed. The features of each zone have been studied. The new uniform empirical attenuation law for PGV has been developed.
