Research demonstrates that men and women have different reasons for exercises. Specifically, males are more likely to report exercise for self-estimation reasons, whereas females exercise to lose weight and getting social support. Purpose. To further detail gender differences in exercise habits and reasons for exercise in HF patients. Methods. The study had a cross-sectional survey design. HF patients visiting Open clinics in 7 cities during 2018 European HF Awareness Days were given the self-administered questionnaire containing questions about social and educational status, attitudes and believes about exercise training (ET) and motivations for ET performance. Patients were asked if they want to participate in ET with predefined answers: "Already", "Yes" and "No". Patients who already exercises were asked about their reasons. Questions describing HF were filled out by doctor. Code numbers were used to further de-identify the participants and ensure their confidentiality. For shares, the boundaries of exact CI are presented, as for the parameters of a polynomial distribution (the program StatXcat-8). The bounds of the CI for the difference and for the ratio of the shares are calculated using the MOVER method. Results A total of 588 HF patients, 52% women, mean age – 64 (with 95% CI from 63 to 65) were included. Females were 3 years older than males (with 95% CI from 1.3 to 4.9 years). II-III NYHA FC- 89,5%. HFpEF - 49% (n=265). In total 17% (n=91) of the patients reported involvement in ET. Heterogenity of the frequencies of the responses was statistically significant (p = 0.00015). Frequencies of the "Already" and "Yes" responses were statistically homogeneous (p = 0.77). Frequencies of all three response in Males and females younger than their median age (62 and 65 respectively) were statistically homogeneous. Same was true for older patients. (p = 0.23). The main contribution into observed heterogeneity is due the substantial reluctance to train in both the older males and females. The ability to improve health was the most important motivating factor for training for both sexes, regardless of age. 48.4% and 45.6% for for men and women. For women, factors related to the emotional sphere were also important , and for men - improving mood and health benefits. Conclusions Desire to start training was not affected by gender, but rather by age. Health improving was the main motivated reason for both genders. In our study second important reason for female patients was positive emotional component of ET.
