The main purpose of the report is to discuss the benefits of implementing a communicative (motivational) approach when designing tasks for foreign language lessons. Nowadays teachers of foreign languages face the problem of students’ inertia in the classroom. The reasons behind the students’ lack of involvement are analyzed and possible solutions to tackle the issue of a silent audience are proposed. The tenets of social psychology are firmly rooted in an understanding of communication stages. The model of communication and its stages are displayed; recommendations on how to create motivational tasks are presented.
