New type of ship wave propeller is invented in the Research Institute of Mechanics of the Lomonosov Moscow state university. The effect of the new wave propeller is not dependent on pitch or roll motion of the ship, but on the presence of the waves only. As a model of such propeller an inclined rectangular plate relaxed in one horizontal dimension is proposed. By lab tests and numerical calculations the effect of the moving against waves is demonstrated. Average plate velocity is non-monotonically dependent on the plate depth, inclination angle, and length. Two dimensional non-stationary calculations modeling the test conditions are performed. It is shown, that with wave channel depth decrease the average plate velocity is decreased too. The glissade effect is discovered and studied: for particular plate positions, the plate under the wave action achieves certain constant velocity co-directed with the waves. In this case the plate moves on the almost non-disturbed water layer before it. Independence of the average plate velocity on its mass is demonstrated by calculations for all types of motion. Comparison of the experimental and numerical results shows good correlation. New tests with two-body catamaran ship, moving against waves are performed quite recently and demonstrated the usability of the new wave propeller.
