The report examines human rights violations in the context of the armed conflict in the southeast of Ukraine (in the Donbas region) from 2014 to 2020. In addition, it analyses the role of the UN in the resolution of this armed conflict. The article focuses on basic documents of international law aimed at regulating fundamental human rights and freedoms, such as the UN Charter, the Geneva conventions and additional protocols, the international Covenant on economic, social and cultural rights. Both systematic violations of international law and breaches of the Ukrainian legislation by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities from 2014 to 2020 were identified in the report. The illegal acts of violence were carried out against civilians, citizens of Ukraine and non-combatants during the conduct of hostilities in the Donbass region according to the analysis of the report of the Office of the United Nations high Commissioner for human rights.
