One of the areas of study of the ecological and geochemical condition of urban landscapes is road dust. Road dust reflects the real extent of contamination of urban landscapes. In addition to the accumulation of atmospheric depositions, the primary contribution to pollution is made by road transport itself. Transport supplies heavy metals and metalloids (HMM) to the environment by burning fuel and erasing tyres and brake pads. HMM are environmentally hazardous pollutants in urban landscapes. A common indicator that indicates urban air pollution during environmental monitoring is PM10 micro-particles, where PM is an acronym for 'particulate matter' and the figure defines the content of all particles with a diameter of ≤10 μm. During atmospheric deposition, they can accumulate in other components of the urban landscape and trap them in the upper respiratory tract, increasing the risk of cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The main idea of the study in this foreign work is to study the chemical composition of microparticles in road dust of Dongying (Shandong Province, China), analysis of their composition, specific distribution in the urban environment, and peculiarities of spatial differentiation. The work demonstrates all stages of such studies: from urban survey, sampling, laboratory analysis to the interpretation of the results obtained.
