The practice of resolving and preventing ethnic and religious conflicts in developing countries constitutes a major part of the United Kingdom foreign policy strategy. Today it is regarded, on the one hand, as an integral part of the national security and counter-terrorism strategy, on the other hand, as a component of the British assistance in international development. The talk is devoted to the problematic aspects of the United Kingdom policy on conflict regulation and prevention. The investigation has shown that the negative consequences of the Western states’ interventions in the Middle East region are causing doubts in the British society concerning the spread of their own values, norms and behaviors in the developing countries. In addition, the investigation touches on the growing concerns related to the increasing conflict potential caused by interethnic and religious discrepancies in the British kingdom. The author comes to the conclusion that at present there is a need to revisit the models used for preventing conflicts of ethnic and religious nature.
