Negotiations make an essential part of business communication. Being inherently complex, the negotiation process displays a wealth of characteristic features such as a rigid structure, standard procedures, clearly defined roles of the participants, and different negotiation styles conditioned by participants’ cultural background. When it comes to translating business negotiations, there are two varieties of factors to be taken into account: linguistic (industry-specific terminology, extensive use of recurrent patterns, the bilingual nature of communication and translation) and extra-linguistic (culture-driven negotiation styles and strategies, the venue, the acoustics, etc).
