The synthesis of luminescent lanthanide complexes is of considerable interest because they are used as as fluorescent labels, imaging agents and emitter materials for light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In general, lanthanide complexes exhibit high quantum fluorescence yields, but their fluorescence intensity is highly dependent on the choice of ligand. The purpose of this work is the step-by-step synthesis of lanthanide complexes with 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-4- carboxylate, a planar thermodynamically stable conjugated zwitterion. As a result of this work, we have synthesised five complexes: [Eu2(μ-C6H8N2O2)4(HOCH3)4(H2O)4]Cl6 · 4HOCH3 [Pr2(μ-C6H8N2O2)4(HOCH3)4(H2O)4]Cl6· 4HOCH3 [Sm2(μ-C6H8N2O2)4(C6H8N2O2)2(H2O)5(OCH3)]Cl5. [Cu(C6H8N2O2) 4](CuBr4) · Cu(C6H8N2O2)2Br2 [Cu(C6H8N2O2) 4](CuBr3) · H2O The structure of the obtained complexes was confirmed by IR spectra and X-ray data.
