Integration processes in Africa began along with the spread of the ideas of Pan-Africanism. Integration formations are called regional economic communities in Africa. This was enshrined in the Abuja Treaty in 1991. The main reason for the formation of integration associations in Africa are economic. But political, geographical, cultural and historical factors are also important. The African Union recognizes eight regional economic communities within the continent. These communities are central to the New Partnership for Africa's Development, which was launched in 2001. The goals of NEPAD are to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable growth and development. Many African states belong to several economic communities at once, for example Angola, Egypt, Zambia, Tanzania and others. 44 out of 54 sovereign states are members of two or more regional communities. This situation can both hinder and promote the economic development of selected countries. Structural changes in the economies of states occur during the process of integration. The interconnections of national production processes are intensifying. We’ve studied the case of Tanzania to prove it. The country is a member of two regional communities: the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC). States’ membership in economic communities provides both benefits and additional costs. On the one hand, regional ties are strengthening, and on the other hand, contradictions regarding continental integration are emerging.
