The hydrolytic polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane was studied under neutral conditions under the influence of microwave radiation in the absence of a catalyst and solvent at various molar ratios of the reagents. The influence of changes in temperature and duration of exposure on the course of the process is considered. It has been shown that the use of microwaves is a promising way to carry out the process due to the possibility of regulating the molecular weight and the content of residual hydroxy and ethoxy groups in the resulting product over a wide range. Using hexamethyltrisiloxane-1,5-diol as an example, the possibility of activation of the OH group of silanols by a microwave field was studied. Microwave treatment has been shown to accelerate the condensation of hexamethyltrisiloxane-1,5-diol compared to the use of a classical heating.
