The unreduced use of carbon-containing fuels (coal, oil, gas, renewable plant materials) in the world ultimately leads to the formation of huge amounts of carbon dioxide in the air. The problem of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere has been actively studied in recent years in connection with environmental and climate changes. The challenge of science and industry is the utilization of anthropogenic carbon dioxide. The effective solution to a carbon capture and utilization (CCU) strategy is the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 into valuable chemicals, mainly hydrocarbons. The production of hydrocarbons from CO2 can be considered as a two-step process with the first formation of carbon monoxide by reduction of carbon dioxide in the reverse water gas shift reaction, followed by the formation of hydrocarbons through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) by the reaction of CO and H2. The aim of our study is the hydrogenation of CO2 to hydrocarbons by modified FTS on iron-based catalysts (FeK and FeCr) and the investigation of active phases using in situ magnetometry, XRD, and HR TEM.
