Low-rank matrices have already a long history of application in the optimization techniques. In this talk, we present new optimization procedures exploiting low-rank tensors and special tensor decompositions, in particular the so-called tensor trains. Recent applications include the docking problem in the context of drug design and the multi-parameter identification in biological ODE models. We also discuss recent achievements in the quadratic optimization in the tensor-train formats.
