The kinship terms in Tagalog can be divided into two groups: relatives by blood and by marriage. Both of them demonstrate distinction in generation and sometimes in age and sex. The Tagalog kinship terms reflect the values which are the most significant for the Tagalogs. Some of these terms are loaned from Chinese and Spanish as the result of language contacts. This group of words is of particular interest for the survey as they convey cultural concepts which are a part of the linguistic picture of the world.
