The paper shows the scale and diversity of human migrations and mobilities in Russia. It also suggests an interpretion of these phenomena in terms of the known differential urbanization theoretical model. The authors come to the conclusion that second home (dacha) lifestyles and shuttle movements at various distances and times involve up to 60 mln Russians and represent their essential substitutes for counter-urbanization in its Western sense.
