Evaluation of coniferous sensitivity to climate change in the Volga region using dendrochronology is an actual scientific problem due to the absence of tree-rings data in the region. There are very few findings related to early and late wood sensitivity to climatic parameters in that area. Our particular interest is to examine the reaction of seasonal wood to the variability of meteorological parameters such as temperature, precipitation, etc. Dendrochronology as a method helped us to determine the relationship between the ring width of coniferous and the specified parameters up to the season for each year (the maximum length of tree-rings chronologies is around 250-300 years). We cored more than 240 living trees (pines, spruces) and built high quality dendrochronological regional scale in areas of growing trees with the greatest age, also we defined climatic characteristics that potentially can be used for climatic reconstructions for the Volga region. This study is fundamental for detect the reaction of the wood to droughts and other extreme natural hazard based on historical and tree rings data. The resulting material can be applied in agriculture and forestry as a method for analysis of ecosystems dynamics and relationships between spices. It also can be used as a predictive method for different scales of environmental changings. The study is sponsored by RFFI scholarship 16-35-00408.
