- Аннотация: This master’s thesis studies characteristic features of the Russian presidential rhetoric and ways how to find out the most appropriate way of rendering it in English. Since politics is a quite emotional subject, a researcher should study how to render overtones in another language in greater detail. The overall goal of the research is to find out whether a translator of presidential rhetoric should closely focus on how something is said, or, on the contrary, what is said. This results from the need to prevent alteration of information and avoid distortion of the publiс image of the speaker in the eyes of the TL audience. The paper seeks to analyze translations of President Vladimir Putin’s discourses into English in order to assess the quality of translation and find out a general strategic approach to translating political speech.
