Аннотация:We present a quantum statistical theory for the oscillations in the magneto-optic Kerr effect recently observed in transition metal sandwiches of varying thickness. These oscillations are caused by the variation of quantum well energy levels as the width of the wells (i.e. the thickness of the layers) is varied. They are most pronounced near optical resonances. Their period depends on the frequency of the incident light. It is shown that oscillations in the magneto-optic Kerr effect are also expected when the frequency of the incident light is varied.
