Аннотация:Two different approaches were used to determine mortality of Diaphanosoma bruchyurum collected in the central part of 59-ha Glubokoye Lake. The first approach, the traditional one, was based on the difference between birth rate and rate of population change under the assumptions of Paloheimo’s model. The second approach involved detailed observations of size and age distribution dynamics. The mortality estimates from the two methods were nearly identical. This means that the assumptions of the traditional approach really hold in natural populations and, consequently, that this approach gives sufficiently accurate mortality estimates.
