Аннотация:The digitiform sensilla located on the maxillary and, in many species, also on labial palps were studied in larvae of 59 species and adults of 21 species from 21 coleopteran families. The number of the sensilla varies widely even within a family. The length of the sensilla varies from 3 to 58 m. In the larvae, the digitiform sensilla can be located in the distal, middle, or basal part of the palpal segment, their location showing no correlation with the systematic position of a particular species in the family. The digitiform sensilla in adults are arranged in compact groups, which can be regarded as sensory organs. Larvae of water beetles of the families Dytiscidae and Hydrophilidae possess poorly developed digitiform sensilla. The unique band-shaped sensilla occur in larvae and adults of water beetles. Possible functions of the digitiform sensilla are discussed.
