Аннотация:The graphite-100% HNO3-99.6% H2SO4 system was studied by x-ray difraction and potentiometry. The potentials of stage I graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) were found to be 1.05 V, independent of oxidizing solution composition. The content of residual sulfur in the oxidized graphite prepared by hydrolysis of GICs depends on the H2SO4 content of the starting oxidizing solution. We assume that biintercalaton compounds are formed in the system studied. Reaction of stage II graphite nitrate (prepared with the use of 100% HNO3) with 99.6% H2SO4 was found to yield stage I GICs, which is explained by reaction of HNO3 and H2SO4 in the gaps between graphite layers. Stage I graphite hydrogen sulfate reacts with 100% HNO3 to form stage II graphite nitrate, presumably through exchange reactions.
