Аннотация:The interaction between sea surface temperature (SST) in the equatorial Pacific and a new modified circulation index is examined. This index consists in the integrated wind speed circulation along a regional contour. The regions are selected according to particular atmospheric circulation features and mainly correspond to mean climatic positions of the atmospheric centers of action in tropical and middle latitudes. On the basis of lagged cross-correlation functions, the characteristics of the atmospheric processes responsible for positive and negative SST anomalies in the equatorial Pacific are determined. The influence of sea surface temperature anomalies onto the wind circulation in some particular pressure systems is also investigated. A possibility of using SST as a predictor for atmospheric circulation anomalies in individual regions is shown.
