Аннотация:Dehydrogenases of t~-keto acids are the key enzymes of the citric acid cycle, a universal pathway of oxidative conversions of intermediate degradation products of carbohydrate, lipid, and nitrogen-free amino acid metabolism. Oxidation of pyruvic acid is the source of
acetyl-CoA, a direct participant of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. The oxidation of oL-ketoglutaric acid results in the formation of succinyl-CoA which, in turn, provides for the phosphorylation of the substrate and for the biosynthesis of succinate. The latter is an indispensable participant of terminal reactions of the citric acid cycle. The aim of the present investigation was to study some properties of oL-keto acid dehydrogenases and of the essential groups of their active centers involved in the catalytic act.
