The structuration characteristics of polyethylene produced by ionic coordination polymerization over TiCl4 complex catalysts or over insoluble (in medium) organometallic components based on phenyl derivatives of lithium, aluminium, gallium or indium, have been examined. The type of macromolecular structure present depends on the crystallinity of the organometal component of the catalyst. These structures are stable enough and determine the various mechanical properties of bulk polyethylene (PE) after remelting when the chemical composition of the chain, the branching density, the intrinsic viscosity, the MWD and the lattice parameters are the same. The molecular weight of the PE increases as the TiCl4 concentration is lowered when the type of macromolecular structure remains the same. © 1976.
