The article discusses a number of authoritative theories in Slavic studies, whichhave influenced research into derivation processes in word formation, morphology, lexicalsemantics, phraseology, and syntax in Slavic languages. The focus of attention is wordformative derivation, the interpretation of its essence and boundaries in some Slaviclanguages, and its relation to morphological derivation. Phonological derivation is studied onthe basis of material from the Polish language, while the analysis of phraseological derivationis based on material from Ukrainian, and syntactic type of derivation is regarded in relation tothe most prominent Russian and Ukrainian syntactic theories. The interpretation of semanticderivation in Apresjan’s theory is illustrated by examples from various Slavic languages. Thecomplex study of derivation in Slavic languages reveals the highest activity of word-formative,morphological, syntactic, lexical, and semantic derivation processes
