Аннотация:Methods of DNA base composition analysis and unique sequences hybridization were employed to determine the genetic relatedness of five species of Viperidae snakes. Basing on the results of the hybridization experiments, a matrix of genetic distances was constructed, which was further analyzed by two methods: the first is based on the assumption of equal rates of divergent evolution in different evolutionary lineages, whereas the second does not have such a restriction. Using both methods, phylogenetic trees were constructed reflecting the genetic relatedness of the five snake species. Both methods yielded trees with similar topology, but the second tree corresponds to the matrix better than the first, i.e., the snake species may differ in the rate of DNA unique sequence divergent evolution. The rate of evolution of this fraction of snake genomes was compared with that of the related vertebrate groups: birds and mammals.
