Francesco Araya (1709-1775?) - one of the largest representatives of Russian-Italian culture. His operas were staged in all the famous theaters of Italy (Teatro San Angelo, Teatro de 'Fiorentini, Teatro Dame, Teatro Pratolino, Teatro Ducale). After one of the most significant productions of the opera La forze dell 'amore e dell' odio, first performed in 1734 in Milan Teatro Regino Ducale (now Teatro alla Scala), the composer was invited to Russia (St. Petersburg) as a conductor. For 24 years (1735-1759) of service in Russia, Araya wrote more than 14 operas, which were a huge success and were performed on the stage of the court theaters of the Northern capital (the Winter Palace, the Hermitage Theater, Oranienbaum, Peterhof). His manuscript heritage spread worldwide In the middle of the XVIII century, but begins to revive and become the object of scientific study only now. Most of the composer's works survived in St. Petersburg, most likely due to the fact that in 1736 Araya presented to Anna Ioannovna her manuscripts - "musical books", which included operas and cantatas. Quite unexpectedly, at the end of 2014 I discovered the full manuscript score of his first opera, performed in Russia - La forza dell'amore e dell'odio (Power of Love and Hatred) in 1736. It has not yet become the object of research, and is not mentioned in the specialized literature. The present appeal to her is evident among the very first. The manuscript itself is kept in Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek (Austrian National Library). It is a unique copy of the fully preserved score of the opera Araya, found outside of Russia, in a completely remote Vienna. Naturally, questions arise-how, how did it turn out to be there? The author will try to answer these questions.
