Аннотация:The article presents the results of an empirical study of the visual aspects of political communication via Telegram channels during the political crisis in Belarus in 2020. The main method of research was qualitative-quantitative content analysis. The source of the study was visual content (images and/or videos) collected in the key Belarusian Telegram channels of different political orientation during the period of two weeks before the elections - Election Day - August 9 – and two weeks after the elections, the main protest wave). Thus, more than 600 visual materials were selected for the analysis. The results of the study highlighted both the general characteristics of the visual component of political communication in Belarusian Telegram channels and the peculiarities of the visual content use by different opposing political forces. It was noted that the pro-government channels kept a value-oriented approach: the visual content focused mainly on the traditions and values of the Belarusian people and the relevant symbols (the Belarusian coat of arms and flag). The key figures in the visual content were "authorities" - prominent public and political figures of the Republic. The opposition channels used visual content to implement the tactics of denouncing the supporters of the current authorities and to carry out mobilization of the opposition-minded part of the users. This was facilitated by a greater variety of forms of visual material, and most importantly, the use of visual user-generated content from the sites of the demonstrations and protests in the offline space.
