Аннотация:High-resolution Auger spectra V(L3M 2.3V) and C(KVV) are obtained for rhombohedral (V4C3) and cubic (VC0.84) vanadium carbides. It can be concluded from comparison of the principal Auger peaks that the transition from VC 0.84 to V4C3 alters the local density of occupied states (LDOS) on the vanadium atom, which can mainly be described by the appearance of an extra peak with a maximum at 1.8 eV below the Fermi level. The LDOS on the carbon atom hardly changes at all.
