In the present text the author analyzes the book of translations of Spanish folk songs “Love and hate”, prepared by K. Balmont and published in 1911. The author describes different versions of translations, identifies original sources, discusses the metrical structure of the texts and conducts a linguostylistic analysis of the peculiarities of translations. The author demonstrates that the composition of Balmont’s book does not follow the composition of the Spanish edition. The Russian symbolist poet organizes texts in his own way, creating a genuine independent work complete in itself.
